It all started in the island of Cebu. In 1935, French Consul to the Philippines, Henry Lhuillier established his first chain of pawnshops, then called Agencias. In time, his Agencias expanded with more branches within the island, as well as nearby provinces. In 1969, Henry Lhuillier’s son Philippe Lhuillier ventured forth and opened a branch at Libertad Street in Malibay, Pasay. He called it the Agencia Cebuana.

This chain of pawnshops has grown into what is now known as the PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies. The Group manages the businesses involved in other diverse industries which include non-pawnshop financial services (banking, remittance, non-life insurance, bills payment, e-load and collections), retail and trade (jewelry and health and wellness), hotel and resort management, sports, restaurant management, real estate management, and information technology.

In 1997, the PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies started its remittance service, Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala (CLPP). In 2003, CLPP extended its service internationally. Today, CLPP is the largest domestic remittance network in the country, with over 1,700 branches in the Philippines, and over 50 international remittance tie-ups, including the top five international remittance partners, Xoom, MoneyGram, Xpress Money, Sigue and Transfast. Clients are assured of real-time transactions, reliable money transfer, and excellent client service.
